Begrudgingly she takes over his most recent case while he recuperates - a case where she has to help a local man save the town swimming hole from a greedy developer who wants to drain it and use the area as a landfill. The landfill owner is a dashing, ruthless businessman, Steven, who is taken with Tess. But, the plot thickens as Tess is surprised to realize that the man who is fighting to save the pond is none other than her high school sweetheart, Court Christensen! After a rough start, with Tess turning over her canoe while surveying the land with Court and Court calling her “too uppity for the town”, everyone assumes the ruthless Steven will win her heart! But after sharing a stolen kiss on the hayride during the town’s harvest festival, Tess realizes that her heart has always belonged back home and with Court. And with his help, Tess understands that her hometown deserves the pond and to keep everything as quaint and untouched as possible, and she wins the case against the dashing developer. Her dad recovers and everyone lives happily ever after.
